Christmas is a time for the Dante  community to show how much they care for young people, especially those in social, emotional and/or economic distress.

For a second year, Dante and our WE Team is partnering with I Love First Peoples for their Friendship Box Project.  The mission of I Love First Peoples is to empower children and youth through education and the motivation to stay in school.  It also tries to bridge Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities through projects that promote reconciliation.

Homeroom classes are invited to pack a shoe box that will be sent to children, 3-16 years of age in Northern Ontario communities.  These boxes will bring joy and friendship to so many students!

Homeroom teachers please ensure you have read the information, the list of suggested items for your boxes as well as detailed step-by-step instructions.  Completed boxes are due by Thursday, December 6th.

Thank you for your support of this social justice initiative.

THE DEPARTMENT OF CANADIAN & WORLD STUDIES

From: The Department of Canadian & World Studies

The Department of Canadian & World Studies is set to begin the Poppy Campaign at Dante. The Poppy Campaign will begin on Monday, November 5th to Thursday, November 8th, 2018.

We are asking Dante students for a donation to receive their poppy, which everyone will wear at the Remembrance Day assembly on Friday, November 9th.

Today, the Poppy Campaign is one of the Royal Canadian Legion's most important programs.  The money raised from poppy sales provides direct assistance for ex-service people in financial distress, as well as funding for medical appliances and research, home services, care facilities, and numerous other purposes.

We would like to challenge each Dante student to donate $1.00

You will receive your poppy before the Assembly on Friday.

We thank you for supporting the Poppy Campaign!

Thank you very much

WE SCARE HUNGER

Who uses food banks? Well let me tell you...
It's families,
children,
the working poor,
people with disabilities,
newcomers to the country,
single parents,
those on social assistance,
students,
and seniors.

Almost 1 in 8 people struggle with food insecurity because they simply don't have enough money to put food on the table.

Please make a donation of non-perishable food to Dante's WE Scare Hunger food drive.

Now there is one more reason to support We Scare Hunger... the homeroom class that brings in the most food donations will win a breakfast for the entire class!

A member of WE will visit homerooms each day this week to get your daily tally and we will announce the class that has brought in the most donations each day during afternoon announcements.

Together WE Can Scare Hunger! Be the change Dante!!!

WE COMMITTEE

Good morning all,

Thank you so much for supporting our WE Scare Hunger initiative and encouraging your students to do the same.  This initiative could not be successful without your help! WE Scare Hunger continues this week, so there is still time to donate and reach your class goal.  We will be visiting homerooms each day this week to get your donation tally for the day.  Each afternoon we will be announcing the homeroom that brought in the most donations for that day. We are hoping that this may encourage a little bit of friendly competition among homerooms... all for a good cause :) As always your support is much appreciated, have a great week everyone,

Dante's WE Committee

WE SCARE HUNGER

"DD YOU KNOW THAT 1 IN 12 CANADIANS WHO VISITED A FOOD BANK LAST YEAR WERE TURNED AWAY BECAUSE OF LACK OF FOOD".

WE Scare Hunger is Dante's annual food drive.  It starts this week!  Two collection bins are set up across from the office and ready to be filled with non-perishable food donations.  All donations will go to the North York Harvest Food Bank which helps individuals and families experiencing food insecurity in our community.

We kindly ask students and teachers to support WE  Scare Hunger.  This is a social justice tradition here at Dante.  If we all do a little, together we can accomplish a lot.

Be the change Dante!
