JUNIOR BOYS SOCCER

With winding and bitterly cold conditions, the Jr. Boys’ soccer team travelled to Centennial Park yesterday for a soccer match against their nemeses Michael Power. Both teams started the first half playing defensively and waiting for their chances to score, but both teams could not muster any goals and the half was scoreless. Starting the second half, Dante had a free kick,  and the kick resulted in a goal. Dante held a 1-0 advantage, but Michael Power would not quite. Power eventually tied the score on many chances they had during the second half. With the scored tied, the game went to overtime. In the first overtime half, both teams were still tied. However, in the second overtime half, Power had their own free kick and broke the tie. Power now led 2-1. With only 4 minutes to play, Dante tried to press to tie the score, but Power held on and stormed down the field to score a heart-breaking goal. The game ended with Dante losing 3-1 to Michael Power. The coaches would like to thank the team players for a great season and superb effort in the game they were not successful. The team players and coaches would like to thank Mr. Ongaro for his assistance in preparing the soccer field for the home games.

TAKE OUR KIDS TO WORK DAY


This Wednesday is Take our Kids to Work Day fall all Grade 9 students.  This is a mandatory program for all grade 9 students and there will be NO classes running for Grade 9's on Wednesday.

Congratulations to the Seniors Boys Volleyball team for a very successful season.  Come out and support the team in their first playoff game against Brebeuf in the gym at 3:30 today, October 31.  Wish them luck when you see them today.

JR.BOYS SOCCER

The Jr. Boys’ soccer team players are reminded of the soccer match, today, at Dante’s soccer field. At the end of the school day, you must report to portable 16 to change and get ready for the quarter final game against CHAT. 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Yesterday afternoon the Senior Girls Basketball team traveled to Monsignor Percy Johnson to compete in their fourth regular season game.  The game turned out to be a grind it out defensive low scoring game.  Both teams seemed evenly matched.  But Dante pulled out their calling card which was the defense.  The defense stepped up and shut the door on any chance of Johnson winning.  Our Dante Senior girls basketball team won 26 -24.

Tonight afterschool the Dante Girls Basketball team is back in action at home hosting Frere Andre and St. Joes.  Come out and witness the action.

JR. BOYS SOCCER

Yesterday, the Jr. Boys’ soccer team played their divisional playoff game against Brebeuf. With severe winding conditions, Dante, in the first half, had many chances to build their 1-0 lead. With those chances squandered, the boys could only hold onto the 1-0 lead. In the second half, Brebeuf had their chances to tie it, but our boys kept their cool and outlasted the windy condition, in favour of Brebeuf, and won the game 1-0.  The coaches would like to congratulate the boys for their hard work and victory. The Dante team now will face CHAT in the quarter final game, tomorrow, at Dante’s soccer field.

SENIOR GIRLS BASKETBALL

Yesterday afternoon the Senior Girls Basketball team traveled to Marshall McLuhan to compete in their third regular season game.  In the first quarter Marshall jumped all over Dante to go up by 5 points. In the second quarter Coach Blackburn and Coach Maieta calmed the girls down and had them refocus and play stronger defense.  In the second quarter Marshall didn't even score a basket.  The defense shut them down.  

Great win Girls.

A reminder to the Junior Girls that they have to be ready to leave by 1:15 p.m. for their game against Johnson today.

Looking to earn some community hours?  Students interested interested in volunteering at Dante's Open House on Tuesday October 24th can sign up in Guidance.

For students interested in applying to US College.  There is an open house on Tuesday October 24th at York Mills Collegiate Institute 6:00 pm. to 8:00 p.m.  See guidance for more info.

Lastly, to all Grade 12 students, don't forget to visit guidance to pick up your Ontario College Permission form if you are interested in attending the College Fair event on Wednesday October 25 at the Enercare Centre - Exibition Place.  All permission forms must be handed in to Ms. Querin in Guidance no later than Monday October 23rde.

Yesterday, the Jr. Boys soccer team played their final home league game against Romero.  The team, after a pep talk from the coaches, came out strong and over powered Romero with a final score 5-0.

The coaches would like to congratulate the team for their well-executed and strong play during the game.  The team players are also reminded of their away game, tomorrow, against Merton.  You must leave at 1:00, tomorrow for this away game.  Make sure you tell your fourth period teachers, today, that you will not be present, tomorrow, as you must show up to the game by TTC.

A quick announcement from the Guidance Department.

The Ontario College information Fair is taking place on Wednesday, October 25 at 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the EnerCare Centre Exhibition Place.

Students currently in grade 12 who are interested in attending the fair next
Wednesday and who will be absent from school must sign and submit the Notification of Absence form located in Guidance.


All signed forms must be returned no later than Monday October 23 to Ms. Querin in Guidance.

Yesterday afternoon the Senior Girls Basketball team travelled to St. Basils to compete in their second regular season game.  In the first quarter our girls jumped all over Basils to go up by 16 points.  In the second quarter Dante coasted which allowed Basils to close the lead. In the end Our Dante Senior Girls basketball team held St. Basils at bay to win 39 – 31.  

The coaches kept the girls composed and focused in the decisive win.  Great Win Girls

The Junior Boys soccer team traveled to Redmond to fare-off with them. Dante tied with Redmond 0-0.

Our next game is Tuesday against Romero at Dante.

JR. BOYS SOCCER

Yesterday, the Jr. Boys soccer team played their home opener against an undefeated Michael Power.  Dante, with determination, and hard work held Power off the score sheet in the first half as Power had many chances to open the scoring.  Dante, in the second half, with some changes of their own, open the scoring.  With Michael Power pressing for the equalizer, Dante pulled ahead 2-0.  Michael Power would not give up and eventually scored to make the score 2-1 for Dante.  With still less than 3 minutes to play, Power had a glorious chance to tie the score.  But a spectacular save was made to end the score in favour of Dante.  The final score Dante 2 Power 1.

The coaches would like to congratulate the players for a well-executed win.  The teams next match is this Friday, October 13 against Father John Redmond, at Redmond.

DANTE GIRLS BASKETBALL

Yesterday afternoon the Senior Girls Basketball team hosted James Cardinal McGuigan in their first of 6 league games.  McvGuigan came out strong and determined to begin their season on a high note.  Our girls weathered the storm and pulled close within striking distance for the entire game.  However McGuigan had the firepower to maintain a slim lead to the end.  Notable players for Dante include Captain Katrina scoring 16 points and Lyann who scored 14 points in the exciting contest.

A reminder, to both junior and senior girls that there will be a brief meeting after school in portable 20.  Also the girls are reminded to hand in their athletic payment with the permission forms at that time.  Failure to do so will exclude them from participating in upcoming games.

COLUMBUS CENTER TENNIS COURTS


This Tuesday is the last day for Tennis Tryouts

Tryouts are at the Columbus Center Tennis Courts at 3:00 p.m.

Players are reminded to bring in a change of clothing, a tennis racket and only non-marking running shoes are allowed on the court.

Those students on the Jr. Boys soccer team are reminded to hand in their athletic payment with the permission form to either Mr. Galati, in room 302 or Mr. Turco in portable 6, by today, if you have not done so.  

The team players are asked to report to portable 20, tomorrow after school, to pick up the jersey, directions to Bishop Allen and to participate in a practice.  The athletic payment and permission form must be submitted before the first league game.  The teams first league game is this week Thursday October 5 against Bishop Allen.

Senior Boys Volleyball


Yesterday, the Senior Boys Volleyball team played Frere Andre High school with heavy hearts with coach Mr. D on their minds.  The boys won three straight games to take the opening game of the season.  The boys would like to thank Ms. Fearon, Ms. Pescador, Mr. Ongaro and Mr. DiLena for their support to get the season going.

Attention Dante Students

A great volunteer experience is coming your way courtesy of Villa Colombo Toronto Auxiliary Board of Directors.

On October 19th they will be hosting their first annual fashion show fundraiser in support of the residents of Villa Colombo.

Currently they are looking for general event volunteers and volunteer models.  If you are interested in helping out and acquiring volunteer hours which can be used to meet future graduation requirements please sign up by writing your name and email address on the list posted outside of the Student Success office, near the chapel

Senior Boys Volleyball


A reminder that there will be a Senior Boys Volleyball practice today.  Players are reminded to bring in their forms and money.  

Jr. Boys Soccer


The grade 9 and 10 who made the Jr. Boy's soccer team are reminded to hand in their athletic payment with the permission form to either Mr. Galati in room 302 or Mr. Turco in portable 6, before the exhibition game against Michael Power this Thursday September 28.

The team practice for tomorrow September 26 is not cancelled.  The exhibition game for this Thursday is still on so make sure you have your soccer equipment to participate.  The teams first league game is next week Thursday October 5 against Bishop Allen.

Make sure you report tomorrow after school for the practice at Dante's soccer field.

Ontario Universities Fair

The Ontario Universities Fair is taking place this Friday September 22 to September 24 at the MTCC.  This is an excellent opportunity for students who are thinking of applying for university to get first hand information from all the 21 Ontario Universities.

Students currently in grade 12 who will be absent on Friday to attend the fair must sign and submit the Notification of Absence Form to the Guidance Office no later than end of school day on Thursday, September 21st.

JR. BOYS SOCCER

The grade 9 and 10 boys who were out for their second tryout for the Jr. Boys soccer team last Friday, must check the new list that is posted outside room 302.  If your name is on this list, you must hand in your permission form and payment to Mr. Turco, in portable 6, today after school.

It is imperative that you hand in this permission form with payment today or you will not attend tomorrow's tournament.

The last day for tryouts for the senior boys volley ball team will take place today after school.

All interested players must attend.



Jr. Boys Soccer

The grade 9 boys who signed up last week will have their their tryout tomorrow Thursday Sept. 14 at Dante's soccer field.  Make sure you have your permission form signed by your parent/guardian in order to participate tomorrow.  If you change in the boys changing room you must not eave any belongings behind.  Make sure you take all your belongings with you after you have changed.  You are to report o the soccer field by 2:50, dressed to participate.

The grade 10 boys who tried out yesterday must look at the list posted near room 302.  If your nae appears on this list you made the second tryout.  The second tryout will take place Friday Sept 15 after school at the soccer field.  Make sure you check this list as it is imperative you show up on Friday for the second tryout.

The grade 9 boys who signed up last week will have their tryout on Thursday, September 14 at Dante's soccer field.

Reminder to all Girls Grades 9-12 that they are invited to try out for the Girls Field Hockey Team.  Come get involved this year at Dante Athletics have fun meet some new people.
