MASSES AND ACADEMIC AWARDS CELEBRATION

In an attempt to simplify things, please be advised that this email is being resent with a change to the schedule.  Please disregard the previous email.


This year’s Academic Awards Celebration will be held on two consecutive days, Wed. Oct. 28 (grade 9 and 10) and Thurs. Oct. 29 (grade 11 and 12).  The celebration will be incorporated into our first Masses of the school year at St. Charles Borromeo Church.   On both days, Period 3 and 4 schedules will be adjusted to allow students and staff their 40 minute lunch and travel time to the church so that we may begin promptly at 1:00 p.m.   Robert Quaglia will be distributing the church seating assignments for your class.

N. B. The Academic Award winners will be recognized after the Mass in celebration of their academic achievements.  These students will be receiving a letter and assigned number, prior to the event, instructing them to proceed to a holding area at the church, and they will not be seated with their class.   They will be part of the procession and seated at the front of the church. The Guidance Department members will be present at both Masses to organize the award winners.

Official awards will not be distributed during the ceremony.  Students will be informed that they can pick them up beginning on Monday, November 4th through the Guidance office.

JUNIOR BOYS SOCCER TEAM

The Junior Boys Soccer team travelled to the HANGAR for their semi final game against archrival Chaminade. Under treacherous windy and cold weather the team played a tough first half falling behind 3 nothing. However, as we always have, the team never gave up and played a strong second half but finished short with a 4-3 score. The goal scorers where Sam Bagheri, Hayden Pierce and Gianpiero Sansonetti. The coaches would like to congratulate the team for an excellent season and are looking forward to seeing you back some of you next year.

All the best to the players that will be playing for the senior team next year.

JUNIOR GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM

Last night the Dante Alighieri Junior Girls Basketball team went into one of the most hostile environments known as Henry Carr and came out with an astounding Victory. They defended they rebounded they communicated they battled. They did whatever the coaches wanted to do to seal a win. Shafonte, Andrea, Katrina, Cheyenne, Patricia, Maica were all instrumental in the Win...and big up to the Senior Girls that were also there battling and supporting along side.

JUNIOR BOYS SOCCER TEAM

The Junior boys soccer team played the most intense game of the year against their arch-rivals 
St. Basil's whose team has two TFC Academy players. Our boys not only won the game but kept one of the highest scoring  teams off the score sheet thanks to an excellent defense, impeccable shadowing by Nicolas Rosario and flawless goal tending by Lucas Valenga.  Winning goal by Keegan Wilson assisted by Gianpiero Sansonetti.


THE Semi Final game has been slotted for tomorrow at THE HANGAR  against our neighbours Chaminade.

This announcement is very important to those students on the Jr. Boys' soccer team, so you must listen carefully. Tomorrow's semi-final game against Chaminade is scheduled for 3:00 at the Hangar. You are to report to period 4 class tomorrow which your period 4 teacher will dismiss you at 1:20. Once you are dismissed, you are to report to the front of the school to board the school bus. Make sure you have your soccer gear and jersey for this very important semi-final game tomorrow against Chaminade.

The Junior boys soccer team made Dante proud defending their home field advantage with a 6 nothing beating of the Mcguigan team under constant rain but maintaining pressure throughout the game. Goal scorers were:

This Thursday, October 22, Shoppers Drug Mart will be hosting a 'Health and Beauty' workshop for Grade 12 girls from noon until 1 pm. 

The presentation will focus on women's health, beauty,  and careers in the cosmetics and health and beauty industry. 

Each participant will receive a gift bag and entry to contests for give aways and gift cards.

Interested grade 12 girls MUST sign up in the guidance office BEFORE Thursday in order to attend.

 Students interested in  Accelerated Apprenticeship opportunities in ELECTRICAL,   PLUMBING,   or REFRIGERATION AND AIR are encouraged to attend an OPEN HOUSE this Thursday ..October 22, at George Brown College  -   Casa  Loma Campus....at 6:00 pm.  This will be an opportunity to hear about the program, see the facility and ask questions.

JUNIOR BOYS SOCCER

The Junior Boys Soccer coaches would like to congratulate the Junior boys on winning the final game of the regular season against a tough Merton Morocco team.  The boys managed to overcome an early one goal deficit coming back strong by scoring 4 goals to take the game. Goal scorers  JOAO DO SANTOS HAYDEN PIERCE, GIANPIERO SANSONETI AND KEEGAN WILSON.

To prepare for the playoffs there will be a mandatory practice on Thursday  after school.

JUNIOR BOYS SOCCER TEAM

The Dante Junior Boys Soccer team played at home against their nemesis the always tough undefeated Michael Power TEAM.   Although it was a hard fought battle, our home team made us proud with a tought win and edging closer to a spot in the playoffs.

Congratulations to the strong game of our full backs  that made this won possible Gianpiero Sansonetti, Andrew Dacuna , Sam Bagheri and Sergio Anacleto as well as a clean sheet from our goalie Lucas Valenga. Winning goal was scored by Keegan Wilson.

The coaches would like to remind  the players of the final  game before the play offs on LUCKY Tuesday Oct. 13.

JUNIOR BOYS' SOCCER TEAM

Yesterday the junior boys' soccer team played at home against Archbishop Romero.  Romero defeated Dante with a score of 4 to 2. Our goal scorers were Hayden Pierce and Keegan Wilson. Our next game is on Thursday October 8 against Michael Power at Dante. The junior boys' soccer team will have a practice today after school. Coaches would like to thank all the player for there determined efforts in last nights game.  Go Dante Go!!!!

Grade 11 and 12 students interested in learning more about the apprenticeship pathway and accelerated apprenticeship opportunities are invited to attend a presentation on Thursday October 8th during period 1 in the auditorium.

Interested students MUST sign up in the guidance office. Only registered students may attend.


Also from the Co-op Department:

Grade 12 students who have expressed interest in Carpentry, Drywall or Floor Covering Installation for their Co-operative Education placement experience for next semester are encouraged to attend an Accelerated Apprenticeship Open House at Local 27, the College of Carpenters and Allied Trades, on Tuesday October 6th at 6:30 pm. Further information can be found posted at the guidance office and the Co-op office - room 303.

Student interested in CANADIAN ARMED FORCES Co-op placements for next semester MUST  ATTEND an intake session on Saturday October 3rd.  Students must submit their application and be prepared to undergo fitness testing.  Applications and further information is available from the Co-op department - room 303.

PATHWAY AND ACCELERATED APPRENTICESHIP OPPORTUNITIES

ATTENTION Grade 11 and 12 students !!

Have you considered a career in baking or cooking, as a hairstylist, an electrician, a carpenter, a plumber, a child development practitioner?  These careers and over 100 others are attainable through apprenticeship.

Learn more about the apprenticeship pathway and accelerated apprenticeship opportunities by attending a presentation on Apprenticeship on Thursday October 8 th... at during period 1 ....in the auditorium.

FIRST JUNIOR BOYS SOCCER GAME

Under torrential conditions the Dante Junior Boys soccer team began the 2015 season. Dylan put the team ahead early only to be tied by the Bishop Allen team. After hitting the post five times and unforgiving rain the team never gave up and scored the going ahead go! by Kofi Julian put the icing on the cake with a final goal giving DANTE's boys their first win of the season. The coaches would like to thank the players for a great effort. Next game tomorrow.
