REMEMBRANCE DAY

An Announcement from the Canadian and World Studies Department:

As we begin Veteran’s week, let us reflect on Remembrance Day.  Remembrance Day is a special time to reflect on those who have lost their lives in military service and to be thankful to our Veterans, young and old alike.

This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the 2nd Battle of Ypres in Belgium during the First World War.  On April 22, 1915 Germans introduced poison gas, a terrible new weapon.  Despite the suffocating thick clouds of yellow-green chlorine gas, the Canadian troops held on against all odds until reinforcements arrived.  Our Canadian soldiers had begun to build a remarkable reputation for skill and valour on the battlefield.   It came at a steep cost as many lives were lost.

Lest we forget.
