TDCAA SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP

Good morning Dante family!!

Can you smell that? Its the smell of Victory!!!
Yesterday at Downsvies park, the 2014 TDCAA soccer championship took place.
The result: a major Power Outage!! Dante defeated M.Power 2-1.

To recap: a superb left strike by Jordan Pereira(alla Beckham) gave Dante the 1-0 lead.
Jordan would also hit another post on a free kick!

With ten minutes left, and the game tied at one a HERO was needed. It came in the name of Sergio Chazi
who after receiving a splendid pass by Alex molina rocketed a left foot strike passed the helpless power keeper!
GOOOOOAAAAAL!! Final: Dante 2 M.Power 1

So many people to thank: Thanks to all the fan support (students, teachers, secretaries, and admin)  that we received yesterday at downsview and throughout the year on our home field.

Thanks to Ms.Quagliozzi and Ms. Cifelli for all the refrees cheques! Without them we would have not been able
to bribe the refs...Just kidding:)

And most of all the coaches would like to thank the team for the great unbeaten season!

On a side note: the team would like to thank Ms. Fortino for her home made cookies after the game. Deliciuos!
Also Mr. Fortino boble heads were a hit!! Come to think of it, Ms.Fortino  bought all of them. :)

And to conclude, Mr.Ongaro is not here this morning. He is recovering from hypothermia as the team emptied the icy cooler on him after the game to celebrate!

Have a great day!! Windsor 2014 OFSAA, here we come!

BOYS BASEBALL

In the spirit of Lord Alfred Tennyson's poem 'Charge of the Light Brigade' the Dante Boy's baseball team took the field and put their best effort forward in the last playoff-game of the season. The Coaches would like to thank the whole team for a fabulous season. Shout outs to all the players who came through this season. Chris Ferris, Josh Neville, Kyle Da Cunha, Bruno Araujo, Ethan Nunes, Humberto Santos, Pedro Salazar, Michael Pileggi, Isaac Moran, Gianni Pesce, Michael Gauthier, Ramon Sursona and Michael Raposo. As Lord Tennyson said in his famous poem, "When can their glory fade? O the wild charge they made!" Dante definitely made a wild charge at the end of the season, yet fell prey to a stronger team. Better luck next year boys!!

Thanks,

Mr Boscarino

BOYS BASEBALL TEAM

Boys Baseball

The Dante Boy's Baseball team, surrounded by a group of supporters, and two dedicated coaches in Mr. Jamnik and Mr. Boscarino, rode a high-horse into victory. The likes of California Chrome in midst of this years Triple-Crown was a staunch role-model for our victory. Dante won 5-3 against a spirited opponent in the likes of UTS. Highlights included, a massive pitching effort our captain Chris Ferris, a huge offensive and defensive rewarding effort by Bruno Araujo and Michael Pileggi. A special shoutout to grade 12 Gianni Pesce who stole the show with his defence and offence. Where has he been all these years!? What a star! As said in Henry the V by William Shakespeare, "Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more..."  Dante embarks once more unto the breach this Wednesday in the Semi-finals. Mr Jamnik and Mr Boscarino are so proud of how far we have come. We hope we can come much farther.

BOYS BASEBALL

Dante had a huge end-of-the-season double-header against close company in foreign territory, South Etobicoke played host to a couple of crucial end of season matchups. Dante squared off against Johnson at 9 am right by the water, shrouded in sunlight with fans on hand. Mr. Jamnik and Mr. Boscarino endured an early start and a long day to secure our school's name and team in the playoffs. An early loss led to an epic victory in the afternoon with the clouds looming. Ford Nation has seen nothing like it. Highlights included Michael Raposo with an injury-ridden double play and huge catches in the outfield. Chris Ferris as a clutch-pitcher in both games. Gianni Pesce shone with catches and clutch hits along with fellow grade 12 Michael Pileggi with a keg catch and RBI. A huge shout out to our number one fan Mrs. Gauthier for cheering us on and supplying the much-needed snacks!! Victory was bitter-sweet ad the coaches are very proud of all the players. The quest for victory continues on Monday with our playoff game in the east-end! Scarborough awaits, but we are not scared!!! Dante, ready as always!!!

Go Monarchs!!

Thanks

MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS

It's time to continue loving yourself and enjoy being yourself.

Pride yourself on being unique and stop comparing yourself to others. Adopt a healthy attitude for life and accept yourself for who you are, body and mind. Forgive yourself as you would forgive others and celebrate your successes! Remind yourself of all your skills, accomplishments, relationships and interests. Always focus on the positive! Develop coping strategies to deal with negative situations and remember, you control your happiness, not the world around you. To like yourself, you must know that the fashion world isn't reality! Feel good in your own body and love the personality and character that is you. Most importantly, loving yourself means taking the time to engage in activities you enjoy and spending time with those who make you feel good. There is no one definition for happiness so create on that suits you! And, continue Tweeting your photos showcasing your passions to twitter@danteacademy.ca using hashtag #Happinessls.

Be sure to visit our information booths on your lunch for some wonderful information from community organizations that specialize in helping youth love themselves! Perhaps you'll find an activity that's right for you!

Remember Dante. Eat - Play - Love!

MENTAL & WELLNESS TEAM

Good morning from your Mental Health & Wellness Team:

It’s time to adopt new measures for a happier and healthier you. The best place to start is by nourishing your body with healthy foods and adopting healthy eating habits. It’s important to eat foods you enjoy but that are rich in nutrients your body needs. A well-balanced diet filled with fibre, surrounding yourself with healthy snacks, feeding your body only when its truly hungry, and eating well-sized portions is key to helping to care for your body.

During your lunch in the cafeteria, be sure to visit Debbie and Madge, our Public Health Nurses, to obtain more information on healthy eating, to pick up a copy of the Canadian Food Guide and to play some fun games for some tasty sugarless lollypops!

You truly are what you eat. Foods help to dictate our moods and contribute to our overall mental health!

Finally, we invite you to continue wearing your green ribbon in support for those suffering from various mental illnesses.

MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS WEEK

Starting Monday, May 5th and running through to Friday, May 9th, Dante will be holding Mental Health and Wellness Week filled with many activities and events!  This year’s focus is on the connection between wellness and mental health. Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward living a healthy and fulfilling life. By focussing on nurturing our physical, emotional, and social well-being on a daily basis, this will help to maintain our overall mental health. Mental health is not being happy 24-7 but rather it is a person’s ability to enjoy life, to attain a balance between activities and to achieve psychological resilience in the face of obstacles. By facing life’s challenges with positive coping mechanisms such as healthy eating, fitness and recreation, and learning to love one’s self while building a solid social network, we can help to keep mental illnesses, such as anxiety and depression, under control or at bay.
Our kick-off assembly on Monday will feature motivational speaker, Dan Perdue. Mr. Perdue will help you discover the unlimited potential you have within you that will build the confidence needed to achieve the goals you set in your life. He will discuss how regardless of your circumstances, you all have the power to breakthrough adversity and overcome any challenge. Learning to take care of your physical, emotional, and social needs while valuing who you are will help you reach new levels of success which ultimately helps to maintain overall mental health.
Please welcome Dan to our school on Monday!
We hope you enjoy the assembly!
