Starting Monday, May 5th and running through to Friday, May 9th, Dante will be holding Mental Health and Wellness Week filled with many activities and events! This year’s focus is on the connection between wellness and mental health. Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward living a healthy and fulfilling life. By focussing on nurturing our physical, emotional, and social well-being on a daily basis, this will help to maintain our overall mental health. Mental health is not being happy 24-7 but rather it is a person’s ability to enjoy life, to attain a balance between activities and to achieve psychological resilience in the face of obstacles. By facing life’s challenges with positive coping mechanisms such as healthy eating, fitness and recreation, and learning to love one’s self while building a solid social network, we can help to keep mental illnesses, such as anxiety and depression, under control or at bay.
Our kick-off assembly on Monday will feature motivational speaker, Dan Perdue. Mr. Perdue will help you discover the unlimited potential you have within you that will build the confidence needed to achieve the goals you set in your life. He will discuss how regardless of your circumstances, you all have the power to breakthrough adversity and overcome any challenge. Learning to take care of your physical, emotional, and social needs while valuing who you are will help you reach new levels of success which ultimately helps to maintain overall mental health.
