HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH:FARABUNDO MARTI (El Salvador)

Farabundo Martí is known as the leading member of the Communist Party of El Salvador (PCS) and the founder of the Central American Socialist Party where he led El Socorro Rojo Internacional which is a communist alternative to the Red Cross to help poor and underprivileged Salvadorians through socialist ideology. Farabundo Martí was born in Tetepeque which is a farming community in El Salvador. He was the son of a landowner. From a very young age, Farabundo recognized the exploitation of the country's poor for the profit of the rich Farabundo studied at the University of El Salvador in San Salvador where he studied Marxist-Leninist ideas and began to dedicate his life to building a revolutionary movement. Farabundo Martí remains to be the leading martyr figure for El Salvador’s Left. For this reason, the Salvadoran leftist party has been named Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) which is one of El Salvador’s two major political parties. Thanks Mr. Flores
