There will be a workshop offered for students who would like some assistance in applying to university or college during all three lunches on DECEMBER 8th. BELL DRIVER EDUCATION

Bell Driver Education will be offering their popular MTO approved Driver's Education course to students of Dante Alighieri the course will be held here at the school starting on Tuesday November 23 in Portable #4 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm . SCENE FEST

Everyone is invited to come check out Scene Fest on Thursday evening here in the Dante Theatre. The show starts at 7 pm and tickets are $2 at the door! Scene fest is a collection of scenes based on things such as break ups, bulemia, jealousy and young love.

VOW OF SILENCE

121 million children around the world are denied the opportunity to attend school, and 218 million children worldwide work as child labourers.
This Thursday, the Me to We committee will be participating in the Vow of Silence, agreeing to stay silent and refrain from any type of communication for period’s 1&2 to help raise awareness of this social justice issue.
This week, during all three lunches, you will have the opportunity to sponsor a member of the Me to We committee with any change you are able to give. All of the money will be going to Free the Children to help raise funds to purchase classroom supplies, textbooks, and a lunch program in schools overseas.

Anything raised will make a change, so BE THE CHANGE!

1. Congratulations to the student delegates who participated in CSUNA (Catholic Schools United Nations Assembly) last week. The student delegates debated, and discussed issues that concern our world community.

Dante is proud of the following students: Ricardo Benavides who represented Costa Rica, James Lewis, Julianna Spinotti, and Patrick Calingo who represented Norway, Rosa Siciliano, Orlando Siciliano, and Sara Mottola who represented Hungary, Gustavo Perez and Linda Hua who represented the Syrian Arab Republic.

JUNIOR GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYOFF WIN

DATE: November 11, 2010

Congratulations to the Junior Girls Basketball Team for their first playoff win against St.Patricks last night. The girls won in a nail bitter 37-36 in overtime. It was a closely contested match throughout the game. The Dante girls were up by 2 at the half but Pats went on a run and took the lead but Dante battled back in the final quarter. Kayla Pelletier sealed the win with a crucial free throw with 27 seconds left in the game. Chantel Medeiros, Julia Franco, and Priscilla Amakea played well on offence and finished when they had to. A special mention to Ja-mi-ah James and Colleen Aratera who battled hard on defence despite nagging injuries. Well done ladies.

The girls next playoff game is home to the Mother Teresa Titans on Tuesday.

There will be a junior girls basketball practice today after school at main campus.

DUAL CREDIT COURSES

Students in Grade 12 who would like to get a head start on college might be interested in this!!!

The Colleges have put together an assortment of courses that are interesting for a variety of students and are available beginning next semester. You can actually get a high school credit and a college credit at the same time.

Courses range from Digital Art and Design to Canadian Criminal Justice to Dynamics of Global Tourism. Currently courses are available at Humber, George Brown and Centennial Colleges.

POPPY CAMPAIGN

DATE: November 3, 2010

The Department of History is set to begin the Poppy Campaign at Dante. The Poppy Campaign will begin on Friday, November 5th to Wednesday, November 10, 2010.

Starting tomorrow, students will be visiting Period 2 classes during the Poppy Campaign and asking Dante students for a donation to recieve their poppy which everyone will wear at the Remembrance Day assembly.

Today, the Poppy Campaign is one of the royal Canadian Legion's most important programs. The money raised from poppy sales provides direct assitance for ex-service people in financial distress, as well as funding for medical appliances and research, home services, care facilities, and numerous other purposes.

JUNIOR BOYS' SOCCER

DATE: November 2, 2010

Yesterday, the Jr. Boys' soccer team traveled to Johnson to play their quarter playoff game. The team started off great with most of the play at Johnson's end but the players found themselves behind 1-0 at the end of the half. The coaches had a pep talk during the half and Dante responded with at 2-1 victory, even while playing a man short. Scoring both Dante's goals were Jacob Orellana. The team now travels to McLuhan today for the semifinal playoff game. The players are asked to report to 4th period for attendance and then report in front of the school.

JUNIOR BOYS SOCCER

The Jr. Boys' soccer team are reminded of their game against Johnson today. The players are asked to report to their fourth period class and then report at the front of the school to board the school bus at 1:35. The playoff game will start 3:00 p.m. so the bus will leave as soon as it arrives from Beatrice. Make sure you are at the front waiting and not roaming the halls.

TDCAA CROSS COUNTRY MEET

Congratulations to Franco Oller, Gustavo Prez, Antonio Cimino, Rysher Molina & Lina Hua for competing at the TDCAA Cross Country meet on Friday. Runners placed in the top 1/2 of there age group. Honourable mention goes to Franco and Antonio for there finish in the top 1/3 of their groups.
