DATE: February 19, 2010

On Wednesday February 17th, the Dante Alighieri Concert Band traveled to Ancaster Ontario to compete in the Golden Horseshoe MusicFest. This is the second regional festival we have competed in for the 2009/2010 season and the second time in Dante's history that we attend this particular festival. The hall we played in proved to have some challenging acoustics, but our bands determination and ability to listen to one another and work as a team saw us through this new setting.

The adjudicators were impressed by our performance and as a result, our band was awarded a Gold standing - this is a first for us in an Ontario Regional festival and the second time in our schools history.

The other good news is that as a result of yesterday's Gold Standard performance, we were also awarded an invitation to perform and compete at the National level in Ottawa this coming May.

I would like to once again thank Miss Scaffidi-Saggio and Mr. Quaglietta for their continued support and for their help with today's trip.

Our next festival is at the Georgian Bay MusicFest in Collingwood in early March.

Thanks to all the grade 9 & 10 band students and to all of you who have supported the band program. Thanks also to those of you who gave your congratulations for the OBA performance and well wishes for today's performance.

Mr. Garofalo
