Date: Sept. 28/09
Teacher’s Name: MR. TURCO

Last week the Jr. Boys' soccer team participated in an exhibition game against Allen and tied 1-1. The following day on Friday, the team entered for the first time, an Invitational St. Jean de Brebeuf tournament in Woodbridge. In the round robin Dante played hard and were awarded with two wins and one tie. Their first game against Cardinal Newman ended 1-1 but the next two games the team worked even harder and came out on top with a 2-0 win against Percy Johnson and 3-0 win against Romero. Dante came in first place and faced their nemesis Chaminade in the semi finals. The team started strong and took a 1-0 lead in the first half but could not hold on and ended with a 1-1 draw. To decide on the winner both teams had to play in a shoot out. The outcome was in our favour and Dante won the shoot out. With little rest Dante played their championship game against the power York Catholic District High School St.Theresa of Lisieux. Dante could not overcome the fatigue and lost the final championship game 1-0. This is the first time Dante entered this tournament and finishing as finalist was outstanding. The team received a plaque that is located in the show case and each student received a tee shirt. The coaching staff, Mr. Aldea, Mr. Festa, Mr. Matiitchik and Student Teacher Mr. Martinuzzi would like to congratulate the students for their commitment and hard work on all the games played in the tournament. We are now prepared for the season league games which start tomorrow Sept. 29/09 against Romero. The final list of the Jr. Boys' soccer team is posted near the gym doors. If your name appears on this list, you must make sure you return your permission form along with the athletic fee to either one of the coaches. There is a practice today at Beatrice. The grade 10 students who made the team must travel to Beatrice.
Thank you
Mr. Turco
